Purulia pvt hospital refuses to release patience after kin fails to pay bill

A private hospital from Purulia allegedly detained a patient after her family members failed to pay the amount which the hospital authorities demanded for during her release.

The incident triggered tension at Purulia town on Tuesday morning when the family members of the patient staged demonstration in front of the hospital demanding the release of the patient. It was alleged that Basumati Singh Mura, a resident of Heshahaatu village of Jhalda was taken to the Singhania Seva Sadan after she complained of respiratory distress. It was alleged that private hospital authorities did not release the patient and demanded a huge amount of money from the patient's family members.

Simanta Singh Mura, the patient's younger brother said that the patient was first taken to Purulia Sadar Hospital where she had been undergoing treatment for a while. While being treated, a doctor of the hospital advised the patient's relatives to take her to the private hospital. During the admission, the hospital authorities told the patient's relatives that it would cost around Rs 7,000. It was alleged that during the release of the patient, the hospital authorities demanded around Rs 35,000. When the patient's relatives told the hospital authorities that they cannot pay the entire amount all at once, the hospital authorities refused to release the patient. Private hospital authorities, however, denied the allegation.
