PSC files complaint against fraudulent 'clone' website

Kolkata: Kolkata Police has received a complaint from the state Public Service Commission (PSC), alleging that someone has cloned their official website and is running a similar website to mislead candidates with malafide intentions.

According to sources, a few days ago some officials of PSC saw a website identical to theirs, where several updates regarding recruitment could be seen. Immediately, superior officials of the body were informed. Later, it was found that the fake website contains an extra tab named 'call letter', which is not there on the original website.

Immediately, the Joint Secretary of PSC lodged a complaint against unknown miscreants at the Cyber Crime cell of Kolkata Police. After a day of lodging the complaint, Kolkata Police initiated a case and started a probe.

After examining the website, sleuths found that it works just like the original one. It is suspected that while paying the fees, money may get credited to accounts of the alleged cheaters who had created the fake PSC website.

Though no complaint from any candidate has been received yet, sleuths suspect that chances of candidates getting duped are high. The cheaters may have also issued fake appointment letters to the candidates. But it is yet to be confirmed as no such candidate could be traced till Thursday. The website, which was operational till Wednesday, was blocked on Thursday.

Earlier, several fake websites of school service commission and other government websites were found and cases were lodged at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime police station.
