Protest over baby's death at hospital

Kolkata: Tension ran high at Canning Sub-divisional hospital on Monday morning following the death of a baby whose family members staged a demonstration levelling negligence charge against some doctors.

The victim, a six-month-old girl, was taken to the hospital by her father Chandan Haldar, a resident of Basanti in South 24-Parganas, after she suffered of chest pain. She had been suffering from cold for the past few days.

She was admitted to the hospital around 6 am in the morning. The family members of the victim alleged that no treatment was meted out on the patient till 8 am which eventually led to her death.

They also alleged that doctors later administered an injection on the patient which further deteriorated her health condition.

The family members of the victim staged protest demonstration inside the hospital. They also allegedly manhandled a doctor at the hospital. After being informed the police reached the hospital and dispersed the mob to bring the situation under control.

The incident triggered tension among the other patients at the hospital.

The agitation was also lifted after the police assured the victim's family members that the matter would be looked into. A probe has been initiated.
