Prompt action by police helps Mexican woman recover her handbag

Kolkata: Less than 24 hours after a Mexican woman's handbag went missing near a leading confectionery shop at Park Street on Thursday afternoon, the police recovered the handbag with all its belongings and arrested a woman for stealing it.
Police sources informed that the Mexican lady Valdes Salazar Ana Victoria had just gone past the confectionery shop when she suddenly noticed that her handbag was missing. A reasonable amount of cash, some important documents and some jewellery were inside the bag. She immediately lodged a complaint with the Park Street Police station.
The sleuths scanned the CCTV footage and after working upon source information, the accused woman was nabbed from Bandel railway station in Hooghly district and the stolen handbag was recovered along with all the belongings. The accused has been identified as Sajan Chowdhury, 19.
In another case, the Kolkata Police on Thursday night arrested a youth Mohim Sardar from his residential area in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas. A 42-year-old lady Runu Poddar on August 22 had lodged a complaint that her gold necklace was snatched while she was travelling in a minibus. She had felt a sudden jerk on her neck when the bus stopped at Moulali crossing. She found her necklace missing and as she raised a cry she found an youth disappearing fast in the crowd of the Moulali traffic. The police has also recovered the gold chain from the accused. He was produced at Sealdah court and was remanded to police custody till September 4.
