Professor beaten up by students

Kolkata: A professor of Bengali was allegedly beaten up by some students at Hirarlal Pal College at Konnagar in Hooghly on Wednesday. It was alleged that as he protested against misbehavior by members of students union, he was targeted.

According to sources, on Wednesday afternoon, a scuffle broke out between Under-Graduate students and Post-Graduate students. For the past a few days PG students were appearing for examinations which concluded on Wednesday. After the examination ended, PG students were allegedly clicking selfie inside the classroom sitting on the high benches.

Seeing this some members of student union reportedly protested. But the PG students alleged that the student union members behaved badly with them. However, after the acting principal of the college Malay Roy came to know about the incident, he called both parties and negotiated the matter. Both members of students union and PG students reportedly said sorry to each other.

Situation turned worse when the students were coming down from the principal's room accompanied by Chatterjee. Members of students union allegedly started beating up the students and Chatterjee tried to resist. At that time, he was also beaten up. Later, he went to Uttarpara police station and lodged a complaint. Till Wednesday night no one was arrested.
