Presidency student urges authorities to grand leave on election days

Kolkata: A student of Presidency University has urged the authorities to grand students leave for exercising their franchise in the second and third phase of Lok Sabha elections to be held on April 18 and 23, respectively.

In an e-mail sent to dean Arun Kumar Maity by Subhajit Sarkar, a student of history second year, requested the varsity not to have any internal assessment or presentation for the students in these two days.

The student has also pointed out that some students who had the desire to cast their votes could not do so during the first phase polls in Alipurduar and Cooch Behar on April 11 as there was an internal test on that day.

"I have written on behalf of students who have expressed their desire to cast their votes on April 18 and 23. Some students could not vote on April 11 because there was internal examination. " Sarkar said.

"I have asked the dean to look into the matter. But the university will not bar any teacher, student or non teaching staff from casting their votes," said Debojyoti Konar, registrar of Presidency University.

It may be mentioned that Rabindra Bharati has not scheduled any such internal assessment on the election day and also on the days prior and post to it to ensure that students can go to cast their votes. The varsity will also grand leave on these days for the students who are voters of the LS constituencies that have polls on April 18 and 23.
