Kolkata: State Power minister Sovandeb Chattopadhyay on Saturday said that the capacity of power supply to the Sagar Island will be increased from 8.9 MU to 16 MU per day during the forthcoming Ganga Sagar Mela scheduled to take place between January 10-16.
Chattopadhyay held a meeting with senior officials of his department at Sagar Island instructing them to take adequate measures to ensure that there are no incidents of power cuts during the Ganga Sagar Mela.
After holding the meeting, the minister said the power department will arrange six generators to meet any emergency situation. As many as 10 centres will be set up inside the Sagar Mela where power department officers will be deployed. They would oversee the entire situation.
If there is any complaint coming from any part of the Sagar Island, the department will address the issue within two to three minutes.
Around 50 power department officers will be deployed in the Sagar Island during the event. There will be an additional deployment of 300 contractual staff.
"There is hardly any possibility of power cut during the Sagar Mela. All the senior officials have been asked to take adequate steps to provide uninterrupted power supply. The load capacity will be doubled during the event. Various electrical apparatus including high and low tension wires have also been repaired."
