Power dept inks MoU with RECL

Kolkata: The state Power department on Wednesday signed an MoU with Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (RECL) at the Bengal Global Business Summit.
Dr PV Ramesh, who is the chief managing director of RECL, said that he will invest Rs 8,000 crore in rural electrification in Bengal.
Out of this, Rs 4,200 crore will come from the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), which is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Power, with the aim to facilitate 24x7 supply of power.
State Power minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhayay, PV Ramesh, CMD of RECL, Sunil Gupta, additional chief secretary, Power and Rajesh Pandey, who is the CMD of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL), were present at the occasion.
The minister, along with Gupta, held B2G meetings with as many as eight countries like Poland, USA, Germany, Serbia, France, Skoda in Czechoslovakia, Netherlands and Scotland on Tuesday, to tap techno- logy for the Power sector in Bengal.
