Portion of old building collapses, one injured

Kolkata: A portion of an old building at Golabari area of Howrah collapsed on Sunday injuring one person.

The incident triggered tension in Burnsholt Gola lane Sunday morning when a portion of the building fell down. A portion of the balcony on the third floor suddenly collapsed when some repairing work was going on.

Police said that a mason identified as Dulal Mondal was carrying out some of the repair works on the third floor. When he was doing his work, a portion of veranda suddenly fell down as a result of which Mondal fell down with it. He received critical injuries in the incident and was rushed to a nearby hospital by the local people. The local people said that the building was 30-40 years old. The portion of the balcony fell on a motorcycle which was parked by the side of the road. The local residents rushed to the spot after the incident and took the victim to the hospital.
