Pollution machines to be set up at 11 places

Kolkata: The state Pollution department is going to set up machines at 11 different locations in the city and its adjoining districts to measure

pollution.

Currently, there are machines to measure pollution at two places in the state: near Victoria Memorial Hall and Rabindra Bharati University.

Now, initiatives have been taken up to install machines to measure pollution at different locations.

The places where the machines will be installed include Maddox Square, Beadon Street, Basanti Devi College, Jadavpur, near Administrative Training Institute (ATI) in Salt Lake and Joka IIM.

Same machines will be installed near Barrackpore Police Training College. In Hooghly, it will be set up at Chinsurah.

A pollution measuring machine will also be installed in Birbhum.

The top brass of the department went to different spots to identify suitable places for setting up the

machines maintaining all the parameters.

According to the experts, this is a major step taken to check pollution in the state. With the setting up of the machines, a data on pollution can be prepared, which is essential to take subsequent steps to curb the same.

The work of installation of the machines will be carried out soon without any delay and the top brass of the department will be supervising the work to ensure timely completion of the project.

In the past seven years, the state Environment department has taken up several projects to check pollution and now the situation is going to improve further after the machines are installed.

It is learnt that steps would be taken later to install similar machines in other parts of the state as well.
