Police stop wedding of 16-year-old girl

Kolkata: Police stopped the wedding of a minor girl at Tangra in East Kolkata on Monday.

Sources said the girl is a student of class VIII and she was only 16-year-old. Her wedding was scheduled to be held on January 25. But she was against the it. It is learnt that she had approached the police on Monday morning with help of one of her brothers.

Police took necessary steps on the basis of her statement. The girl has been sent home for the time being.

According to a senior police officer, it is the outcome of a massive awareness campaign that the girl approached the police without fearing anyone. Police have also extended all necessary support.
