Police personnel killed in fatal road accident at Howrah

Kolkata: A police personnel was killed in a fatal road accident in Howrah.

The victim, Budhhi Nath Marandi, was discharging his duty near Nibra police outpost under Domjur police station on Thursday night.

He was trying to cross National Highway 6 at around 3 am when a speeding truck hit him.

As the vehicle was running at a high speed, the victim was pushed against the railing after he was knocked down by the truck.

According to police, the victim received serious injuries on various parts of his body.

He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead.

Police said the Dankuni-bound truck was at a high speed when it hit the victim.

The driver fled the spot immediately after the accident leaving the vehicle at the spot. Police are conducting rids to nab the driver.

The body of the victim has been sent for the post mortem examination.

Police have started a probe in this regard.
