Police officer hurt in Baruipur group clash

Kolkata: A sub-inspector of police from Baruipur was among the seven persons who suffered injuries in a clash that broke out between the two groups at Kachari bazaar area of Baruipur late on Wednesday night.

Dipankar Das, the police officer was injured when he reached the spot to stop violence.

He has been undergoing treatment at Baruipur sub-divisional hospital with serious injuries on his body.

The police have arrested eight persons for their alleged involvement in the violence. Around six others from the two sides were injured in the clash.

The police said that two groups of drunken youths engaged in a heated altercation and it soon turned into a scuffle.

The situation turned ugly when members from each group attacked their opponents. Six persons received injuries and they were taken to the Baruipur sub-divisional hospital.

The situation turned hostile after the police reached the spot. The drunken youths attacked the policemen during which Das was injured. A huge contingent of police led by senior officers later rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

A police picket was set up in the area as tension prevailed throughout the day.

The police have started a specific case under relevant sections. A probe has been initiated in this regard.
