Police initiate murder case after 10 days of incident

Kolkata: In connection with the unnatural death of Debanjan Das of Nimta, police have initiated a murder case after 10 days of the incident. Commissioner of Police (CP), Barrackpore, Manoj Verma on Thursday went to Nimta police station and took a quick look at the car and later gave instructions to start a murder case.

According to sources, in the primary autopsy report, there is a mention of two bullet injuries in the body. Earlier, Debanjan's father Arun had alleged that a youth had threatened to kill his son. He also informed that Debanjan was involved in a relationship with a young woman who resides in Birati. She reportedly had relationship with the accused youth.

Arun alleged that a day after the accident took place when he went to police station on October 8, he saw the car at there. It was kept without a cover on it. When Arun and other family members had a glance at the car, they spotted a bullet shell near the brake and accelerator paddle inside the vehicle.

On Wednesday, Arun said: "Inspector-in-Charge (IC) of Nimta police station, Shibu Ghosh denied to take the complaint and forced me to believe that my son died due to the accident. But I am sure that the youth with whom the young woman had a relation has killed my son."

Sources informed, after the incident was highlighted, Verma on Wednesday night got in touch with the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Zone II of Barrackpore City Police, Ananda Roy and sought detailed information regarding the case.

On Thursday, Verma along with Roy went to Nimta police station and inspected the car. Later, Verma instructed his subordinates to initiate a suo motu murder case.

"We are probing the case. A case has been initiated," said Verma. He further added: "An inquiry has been ordered regarding the allegation of not accepting the complaint as well."

After Verma left the police station, cops started acting on the case. Soon, the young woman was detained who was dropped off in Birati by Debanjan before he died. She is being interrogated in order to know if anyone else was in the car with them. Also, she is being questioned regarding her former friend who had threatened Debanjan.
