Police find CCTV footage in Kalighat youth death case

Kolkata: Police have initiated a case over the death of the alleged drug addict whose body was found on Sunday morning at Kalighat area. The cops have also got hold of a CCTV footage of the incident.

The youth identified as Sankar Mondal (25) was reportedly beaten to death by some local residents.

According to sources, after autopsy examination, concerned doctor said Mondal had died due to internal bleeding. Also, signs of assault was found during the autopsy.

During preliminary investigation sleuths came to know that Mondal was beaten around 2:30 am on Saturday night.

He was tied to a tree and assaulted by more than one person.

Some locals informed the police about it.

Based on the information, sleuths have got a CCTV camera footage where the incident could be seen.

But as the footage is not clear enough to identify any person, sleuths are trying to find who were present there at that point time. Police have already got two names and trying find other accused in the case.

A case under sections 304 IPC (punishment for

culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was slapped against unknown accused persons.

Though Mondal was a drug addict and a habitual thief, sleuths are trying to be sure whether he had committed any crime on Saturday night.

Some locals alleged that he was being beaten for allegedly stealing a mobile phone.

But no mobile phone was found from him on Saturday night when Mondal was being beaten up. Till Monday no complaint has been lodged about missing mobile phones from the area.
