Police arrest duo accused of firing shots at woman in Kasba

Kolkata: The Kasba police station late on Sunday night arrested Munna Pandey and his associate Bidhan Sarkar, who were accused of firing at an elderly woman on Rajdanga Main Road in Kasba on Saturday night. The gun shot, however, had missed the target. The duo were arrested from Digha in East Midnapore on the basis of mobile tower location.
They were produced before Alipore Court on Monday and were remanded to police custody till January 20. Sleuths investigating the incident have reasoned an age old enmity behind the incident. Local businessman Surojit Roy had named two local miscreants Munna Pandey and Bidhan Sarkar behind the firing at her mother Sheela Roy.
It was around 12 at midnight when they came to Roy's residence and tried to set it on fire by pouring petrol on the ground floor.
The elderly lady somehow noticed it and as she rushed downstairs they fired three bullets. Luckily the bullets missed the target. However, it was the pet dog of the family that started barking and came rushing down stairs which frightened the duo and they fled the spot.
It may be mentioned that the dispute between Munna and Roy had begun during the Kali Puja last year over taking electric connection of the local club through the supply line of Munna.
When the matter came to Roy's notice, he along with some of his associates assaulted Surojit and his brother Subrata. The two brothers retaliated on December 17 when Munna was beaten up by them.
