Police arrest constable for harassing woman

The accused, Krishna Kamal Bhattacharya, had been posted at Nadial police station. The victim, a resident of Charu Market police station area, alleged that she was standing outside her house on Thursday evening when the accused was passing through the area on his motorcycle.

Seeing the woman, the accused stopped his bike and told her that he wanted to take her to a restaurant.

As the woman protested against his indecent proposal, the accused introduced himself as a police personnel. The woman became scared and shouted for help. Hearing her screaming, the local residents rushed to her rescue and caught the accused.

Local residents said that the accused was in an inebriated state. He was riding a bike that had a 'KP' sticker attached to it. They informed the matter to the local police station. Police reached the spot and took the accused to the Charu Market police station. They came to know about the identity of the youth from his identity card.

The woman alleged that police initially tried to convince her to settle the matter with the accused. Following pressure from the victim and the local residents, police finally started a case against the accused and arrested him.

The victim also told police that this is not the first time that the accused had given her an indecent proposal. He used to tease the woman and tried to force her to establish a relationship with him. MPOST
