Platform to showcase Bengal artisans' creativity and weaves

Kolkata: The State Information and Cultural department has provided a unique platform to artisans from various parts of Bengal to showcase and sell their products.

Banglar Nakshikantha, an exhibition, that was inaugurated on Sunday at Gaganendra Shilpa Pradarshashala will help the artisans to exhibit their intricate handiwork, particularly apparels, just before the Durga Puja. The exhibition will continue till October 2.

"This is a wonderful initiative taken by the Bengal government. This is a golden opportunity for the artisans. The exhibits are fantastic. There are many senior and experienced artisans who had come here to exhibit their talent," said Madhuchhanda Sen, an Art connoisseur, after inaugurating the Banglar Nakshikantha.

Vivek Kumar, principal secretary, Information and Cultural Affairs Department, was also present on the occasion.

"This (Banglar Nakshikantha) exhibition is a platform for the artisans to interact with the people of Kolkata directly," said Kumar.

Wares of artisans from Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Hooghly, South 24-Parganas and other places across the state are on the display in the exhibition, which is open till October 2.

Participating for the second time in Banglar Nashikantha, Mumtaz Bibi, owner of Mumtaz Handicrafts at Santiniketan in Bolpur, Birbhum said she wanted to thank Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allowing her to display her talent.

"I have made a bed sheet displaying all the initiatives of the Mamata government such as Kanyashree Prakalpa, Didi ke bolo and others. It took almost a year to weave all the initiatives taken by the West Bengal government for the development of the society on the bed sheet. I want to dedicate it to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. I am really grateful to Didi," said Mumtaz.
