Piped drinking water to be supplied in Balurghat

Balurghat: Trinamul Congress-led Balurghat municipality chairman Rajen Shill has promised to provide much hyped piped drinking water to its civic residents by the end of March.
"It is our plan to serve new connection to all 20,000 households covering all 25 wards. Our target is to finish the concluding work by the end of running
March. I have already instructed the department engineer to gear up the project," he said.
The entire water distribution system of the town is to be revamped and it includes providing the separate storage tanks with water meters.
Old pipes are being repaired and even re-laid where necessary.
Chiradeep Das, the project engineer, said: "We have already targeted all the 20,000 households to be covered up under the scheme.
It needs 18.25 million litre water per day as well."
The construction of making four reservoirs has been completed.
A modern water treatment plant is already setup at Hosseinpur with all necessary arrangements.
At present public health engineering department is involved supplying drinking water covering approximately 220 households.
Visibly overwhelmed, Shill said: "The dream of fulfilling the project is about to complete.
We had also promised for purified water to
the city residents while coming to power in 2013 by uprooting the Left regime."
