Physically challenged man bludgeoned to death by miscreants

Kolkata: A 47-year-old physically challenged person from Hili in South Dinajpur was beaten to death by some unidentified miscreants as he had protested against consumption of alcohol. The incident had triggered tension among the local residents. The victim has been identified as Ganesh Das (47).
The incident took place on Thursday night. Some local youth were boozing in the area and using slangs at the top of their voice. Das went out of his house and protested against the incident. A hot altercation broke out between the youth and the victim. The accused suddenly started punching and kicking the victim. Attracted by the screams of the victim, the local residents rushed to the spot and found the victim lying in a pool of blood with serious injuries on various parts of the body.
The miscreants, meanwhile, fled the spot immediately after the incident. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim's wife lodged a complaint against the accused in the local police station on the basis of which the cops started an investigation. They are yet to arrest the two accused in this connection. The local people told the police said that the accused beat him up the with an iron rod as a result of which, he had received severe injuries on various parts of his body.
Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits. The local people told the police that the victim, a resident of Bhaktinagar area, was a good natured person and had no rivalry with anybody.
The local people alleged that the accused were involved in various anti-social activities and hence, nobody dared to raise a voice against them. The victim's wife Sikha Das lodged a complaint in the local police against the accused.
