Photo morphing case: Police arrest prime accused

Kolkata: The cyber crime wing of Howrah City Police in the wee hours on Sunday arrested the prime accused in the case of superimposition of faces of some teenage girls with pornographic images and videos at Jagacha in Howrah.
The accused Binod Soren (23) who is pursuing multimedia in a renowned private institute was picked up from a hideout under Domjur police station area. Soren is a resident of Gopiballavpur in West Midnapore and has been living on rent at Sarat Pally area in Domjur.
He was pursuing his final year course and was good in Photoshop.
He used this skill to put faces of some teenage girls at Jagacha superimposing it with pornographic images and video.
The accused was produced at Howrah Court on Sunday and was remanded to police custody for 12 days. We are not sure about the motive of the accused. We will grill him for further leads," a senior official of the Howrah City Police said.
The cyber crime wing of Howrah City Police had initiated a case on the basis of a complaint lodged by four of the victims at Jagacha police station on Thursday.
During the course of investigation, the sleuths learnt that nearly 20 girls who are students of Class IX to 2nd year in college had bore the brunt of the cyber fraud that according to them is an attempt to malign their image in public.
Such superimposed images went viral on the internet. The faces of the girls that were superimposed were taken from their pictures uploaded in Facebook and WhatsApp.
