Patient accuses hospital in Canning of baby swap

Kolkata: Canning sub-divisional hospital in South 24-Parganas has been accused of baby swap.
The family members of the woman who had given birth to a child further alleged that some staff members of the hospital might be involved in a child trafficking racket.
The family members of the victim also told the police that the woman had given birth to twin babies, one male and one female.
Some of the staff members told the mother that she had given birth only to a girl child. Though the discharge certificate given to the patient by the hospital mentioned that she had given birth to a boy child.
This has raised confusion among the family members of the patient. They alleged that some people might have stolen the baby after his birth.
They lodged a specific complaint with the local police station stating the whole incident. On the basis of the complaint, police have started a probe.
They are investigating if child trafficking racket has been operating from the hospital or the allegation of the patient's family members
is baseless. According to police, Aloka Mondal, a resident of Chandaneswar area under Bhangar police station was admitted to the hospital on April 16.
On the same day, she gave birth to a pair of twins, as claimed by the family members. The hospital staff members only showed her the girl child.
They alleged that the boy child was not, however, produced before the patient.
The family members claimed that the discharge certificate proves that the hospital authorities have made a mess out of it.
The family members of the victim also lodged a complaint with the hospital authorities in this regard. They have told the family members that they would look into the matter.
