Passengers on a rampage after delay in ticket distribution

Kolkata: A chaos broke out at Basirhat station on Saturday morning after some passengers went on rampage ransacking a portion of the station alleging a delay in the distribution of tickets at the counter.
The incident sparked tension among other passengers who came to the station to board a train. Situation was later brought under control by the railway police. Two persons including a woman were held for creating trouble.
The incident took place at around 9 am on Saturday. Some of the commuters who were standing in the queue became agitated and started ransacking the ticket counters. They alleged that there are four counters but two of them remained shut. These two counters are opened only when there are long queues. As a result, students have to wait for quite some time to get a ticket.
A quarrel broke out between the passengers and the ticket booking clerks over the distribution of tickets. The passengers alleged that there was a delay on the part of the booking clerk despite repeated requests.
The commuters also alleged that they often miss trains due to this delay. Despite repeated pleas to open the two other counters, no step has been taken in this regard resulting in serious inconveniences for the passengers, especially students.
After being informed, railway police rushed to the spot and pacified the mob. It was also alleged that the matter was taken up with senior railway officials and they were urged to open the two other counters that normally remain shut.
The officials of the
railway station, however, said that on Saturday there was a delay in distributing tickets as a result of which students became agitated.
