Paschim Banga Charu Kala Utsav 2019 to kick-off from today

Kolkata: Paschim Banga Charu Kala Utsav 2019 is all set to commence at Rabindra Sadan - Nandan - Ektara Mukta Mancha from Sunday.

"The inauguration ceremony of Paschim Banga Charu Kala Utsav 2019 will be held at 5 pm at Rabindra Sadan on November 24, 2019. Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, State Education minister Partha Chatterjee, State Forest minister Bratya Basu, Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs Indranil Sen and Vivek Kumar, principal secretary, Information and Cultural Affairs will be present on the occasion. The festival will end on December 3, 2019," said Jogen Chowdhury, eminent artist, Rajya Sabha member and president of Paschimbanga Charukala Parshad.

The festival will include an exhibition of artworks, screening documentaries on fine arts and a fair which would act as a platform for exchanging ideas for artistes.

Organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department and Paschim Banga Charu Kala Akademi, the festival is well-known for showcasing outstanding

works of art by artistes from the state.

"During the festival, we felicitate artistes with awards. The winners of Shilpi Maha Samman and Shilpi Samman will get Rs 1, 50,000 and Rs 1, 00,000, respectively. There are also different categories of awards. We have made

three documentaries on artistes, which will be screened during the festival," said Chowdhury.

Since the past few years, the state government has been felicitating veterans as well as young talents during the festival.

This year, eight veteran painters and sculptors will be awarded with Shilpi

Maha Samman and Shilpi Samman.

"The painters and sculptors who would receive the award for their work will make the nation proud. Besides felicitating the veterans, steps have also been taken to motivate young sculptors and painters," Chowdhury further said.
