Partha seeks impartial probe into CU ragging

Kolkata: State Education minister Partha Chatterjee said on Friday that he wants an impartial inquiry from Calcutta University over the ragging of a first year law student in a hostel at Bidhan Sarani.
Speaking on the sidelines of a programme on Sarba Sikkha, Chatterjee said, "The matter should be probed and there should be an impartial inquiry. Our department has urged all institutions to take steps to prevent ragging and if the allegations are proved in this case, then the offenders should be punished as per provisions in the Anti-Ragging Laws."
According to Chatterjee, the victim student should have been more careful regarding the way he went to lodge the complaint. CU authorities have been critical about how the student had directly complained to the University Grants Commission (UGC).
