Partha critical of Governor's 'role' as Dhankhar meets JU V-C

Kolkata: A day when Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar held a meeting with Vice-Chancellor of Jadavpur University Suranjan Das in presence of the Registrar and two Pro Vice-Chancellors of the varsity at Raj Bhavan, Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee was critical of the 'role' of the Governor, who also happens to be the Chancellor of the university.

"I have heard that he (the Governor) has said that he is not 'proactive' but 'active'. But his 'activeness' is not being accepted well by the common people in the state. He can convene a meeting regarding JU. But the Governor should remember that it is the Chief Minister who is the administrative head of the state," Chatterjee told reporters when asked about his meeting with the authorities of JU.

"I have nothing to say. Whatever will be said, will come from Raj Bhavan," Das told reporters after the hour-long meeting.

Sources in the Raj Bhavan said that the Vice-Chacellor has submitted a detailed report in written format to the Chancellor. The Governor in the meeting expressed concern over incidents of student agitation in the campus in the past few months and advised the administration to take measures on having better coordination among teachers, students and non teaching staff of the varsity.

It has been learnt that the Chancellor wants to hold another meeting with all stakeholders in the varsity like the administration, student unions, the teachers' organisation and employees' union after Durga Puja. It has also been learnt that Dhankhar has asked the Vice-Chancellor regarding student election in the varsity, which was last held more than two years ago in 2017.
