Parking agencies overcharging people in city

Kolkata: Flouting instructions of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), representatives of various agencies collecting parking fees are overcharging people.

They have even printed fake receipts. The matter has been reported to Tapas Chowdhury, special municipal commissioner.

The car owners who have been charged more decided to write to Mayor Firhad Hakim, seeking his intervention. Kolkata on Wheels, a group of car owners, have also taken up the issue with KMC.

When contacted, senior civic officials said no decision to revise the parking fees has been taken yet. They categorically said up to 60 minutes the parking fees is Rs 10 and from 61 minutes it is Rs 20. They urged people to get in touch with them in case they have been cheated by the representatives of various parking fee collecting agencies.

people on Jawaharlal Nehru Road between Birla Planetarium and AJC Bose Road intersection.

Shantanu Samanta, who had parked his car near a diagnostic centre, was charged Rs 20 per hour. He was given a false receipt. Samanta subsequently lodged a complaint with KMC.

Overcharging is also taking place on the stretch opposite Oberoi Grand, Park Street, Strand Road, Shakespeare Sarani, the fee parking zone in front of Calcutta Rowing Club (CRC), Lake Club and Gariahat Road. When challenged, the employees said the KMC has increased the rate.
