Panchayat polls: Special software for better vigil in case of trouble

Kolkata: The State Election Commission (SEC) will use a special software during the Panchayat elections for better monitoring and immediate intervention, in case of any trouble.
"This web-based software will allow us to keep complete control of every step of the election process, from ballot layout to election reporting," a source in the SEC said.
Elaborating on the software's utility, he added that whenever the presiding officer will come across any incident during polling then he/she can send the message through the software to the Commission. "This will enable the Commission to monitor the polls closely as well as send directives immediately," he said.
The Commission will have a control room at his main office at Rawdon Street as well as in the respective districts. The message will reach all control rooms as well.
Meanwhile, a group of Independent candidates from Bhangar on Saturday complained to State Election Commissioner A K Singh against Arabul Islam, TMC leader from South 24-Parganas, for threatening them from campaigning. These candidates had submitted their nomination online. They appealed to the SEC for providing security to them.
