Organisations hold camps to end poll-time blood crisis in districts

Kolkata: An acute crisis of blood, which intensified during recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, is going to be addressed soon a number of camps are being organised in the districts.

The state had been reeling under blood crisis due to a shortage of blood camps in various parts of the state.

Most of the blood camps were organised by Trinamool Congress activists and local clubs. Due to the elections, the blood camps could not be organised resulting in a scarcity in the supply of blood. The involvement of youths

and various local clubs in political activities had aggravated the situation further and the number of blood donation camps was reduced.

After the conclusion of Lok Sabha polls, organisers and local clubs are set to hold camps in various districts. It may be mentioned here that a few days ago some of the senior health department officials held a high-level meeting with the medical superintendents of various medical colleges and the blood banks officials to tide over the crisis.

The health officials also conducted a video conference with hospital superintendents of various hospitals in the districts and the chief medical officers of health giving detailed guidelines stressing on the collection of bloods.

The health officials in the districts were also urged to rope in medical students and health workers into the process to tide over the crisis.

They districts health officials were asked to organise blood camps so that adequate blood is collected in the districts. "The blood donation camps across the state were affected during election season leading to a crisis in various blood banks. The situation is improving now as camps are being conducted in various places. During summer time a crisis in blood supply is witnessed every year," a senior health official said.
