One more held in New Alipore firing case

Kolkata: One more person has been arrested in connection with firing at Sahapur Colony in New Alipore. Five persons have been arrested till Thursday.

They have been produced before the Alipore Court and were remanded to police custody till July 4.

According to police, by Wednesday evening, cops had nabbed four persons who had abducted the New Alipore businessman Arindam Dhar and demanded Rs 200 crore as ransom.

After interrogating the four arrested persons, police came up with the name of a person identified as Tapan Saha. At night, Saha was arrested and later cops came to know that he is a friend of the victim.

Saha stated that Dhar used to brag about his savings and wealth.

He said he had invested Rs 800 crores in various businesses in Nepal. When he saw Dhar was spending lot of money in Kolkata, he thought that his friend truly has a lot wealth. He decided to kidnap Dhar and demand a ransom of

Rs 200 crore. He hired some goons and told them that Dhar had

taken a loan of Rs 200 crore from him which he was not paying back. He told the goons that if the money could be recovered he would pay a commission of 40 per cent. It was planned that miscreants will pose as police personnel from Anti Terrorist Cell and will force Dhar to pay the money.

When Dhar was abducted on the Batanagar-Jhinjhirabazar Bridge, he told the goons that he could pay them Rs 20 lakh if he is taken to his office.

Dhar said the vault containing money opens by his fingerprint. He also told them that there will be only one staff at his office in New Alipore. As the miscreants believed him, they went to his office. After reaching Dhar's office miscreants saw there were about eight staff. When they were countered by the staff and Dhar, goons fire a round to escape from the scene.
