One killed, teen injured in 2 separate accidents

Kolkata: A 30-year-old woman was killed in a fatal road accident that occurred on Diamond Harbour Road on Friday afternoon.

In another incident, a school girl was killed in Bankura after being hit by a speeding truck. The incident triggered chaos after locals refused to hand over the body to the police and put up a road block on National Highway 60 in the morning. The accident that occurred in the city also led to the disruption of traffic movement in some

parts of Behala.

Police said the victim Jhuma Das (30), a resident of Sarsuna area was riding a scooty along Diamond Harbour Road when a vehicle hit her at around 12.05 pm in

the afternoon. As she fell on the road, a speeding truck which was coming from behind crushed her under its wheels. The victim sustained multiple injuries

on her body. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Some of the locals and police rushed the victim to Vidyasagar State General Hospital where the victim was declared brought dead by the doctors. The accused driver fled the spot along with the vehicle immediately after the accident. Police suspect that the vehicle was at high speed the driver and could not control the vehicle and it eventually ran over the victim. Police have started a specific case in this regard and raids are being conducted to nab the driver.

In the other incident, Mandira Dhibar (13), a student of Class IX was killed after being knocked down by a truck. The incident took place in the Bakadaha area under Bishnupur police station in Bankura.

The victim was going to school on her bicycle at around 10 am on Friday. She died on the spot. The locals refused to hand over the body to the police. They also put up a road block on National Highway 60 resulting in a complete shutdown of traffic movement.

An altercation also broke out between the police and the locals. Police had resorted to lathi charge to disperse the mob and sent the teen's body for an autopsy. Police have seized the vehicle and are conducting raids to nab the accused driver.
