One killed, cop injured in TMC faction feud
Kolkata: A minor boy was killed while a police personnel has been injured when a clash broke out between two factions of Trinamool Congress in the Basanti area of South 24-Parganas on Thursday.
The victim has been identified as Rakibul Mollah.
It has been learnt that the trouble broke out on Thursday morning when members of both the group engaged in a heated altercation. A scuffle soon broke out between the two groups, following which both the group members hurled bombs at each other triggering tension in the area.
It was also alleged that some of the group members also fired gunshots. According to the local sources, Mollah suffered a bullet injury in his body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A police personnel reportedly suffered a bullet injury in the incident as well, after being caught in the crossfire. He has been undergoing treatment at the hospital with serious injury.
Some other persons were also injured in the incident and all of them were shifted to the city's hospital from the Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital.
After being informed, a huge contingent of police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The local residents told police that they became traumatised after hearing the sound of repeated gunshots.
Many of the villagers confined themselves within their homes as soon as they heard the sound of gunshots, to save their lives. A police picket was set up at the village as there was tension till late evening on Thursday.
