One killed after bike skids on Haldia-Mecheda state highway

Kolkata: A 29-year-old youth was killed in a road accident on the Haldia-Mecheda state highway. In another incident, ten persons have been injured, some of the critically, when a bus collided head on with a truck in Birbhum's Parui village on Saturday morning. The injured victims were taken to the Suri district hospital. Some of the injured were later shifted to a private hospital as their condition deteriorated.

The first incident took place on Friday night when one Sanjay Rana (28), a resident of Nandakumar, died after the motorcycle he was riding on overturned. According to the local people the victim who used to work in a garage was returning home on his motorcycle met with an accident. The bike skid when the victim was riding the motorcycle at a high speed. Police said that the victim was carrying some motor parts when the accident took place. The local residents rescued the victim and took him to Tamluk district hospital where the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Police later recovered the motorcycle which was badly damaged in the accident. Police are investigating the cause of the accident. The local people told the police that the bike might have skid after he victim lost control over the bike due to the over-speeding. Police are also investigating if the bike was hit by any speeding vehicle before the bike overturned critically injuring the victim. Police have started a detailed probe into the incident.

In the other incident, a bus had collided head on with a truck at Parui in Birbhum on Saturday morning. The private bus was going to Bolpur from Suri. When it was passing through Hattikara Bridge, the driver lost control over the vehicle and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. There were 25 passengers in the bus when the accident took place. Around 10 persons received injuries, some of the seriously. The bus driver also received injuries in the accident. The local residents rushed to the spot after the accident and rushed the injured victims to Tamluk district hospital. Police later reached the spot and seized both the truck and the bus. The truck driver, however, fled from the spot immediately after the incident.
