One killed, 2 injured in separate road mishaps

Kolkata: One person was killed and two others have been injured in two separate road accidents in the city since Tuesday night.
The first incident took place near Brace Bridge station under Taratala police station on Tuesday night when a middle-aged man was crushed under the wheels of a speeding trailer. The victim, whose identity is yet to be ascertained by the police, was trying to cross a road near the
Brace Bridge railway station when a speeding trailer knocked him down.
After being hit by the vehicle, the victim fell on the road as a result of which he was crushed under the wheels. The victim was walking towards the Hemanta Basu Market when the accident took place.
Eye-witnesses told police that the trailer was coming at a high speed from Taratala side. After the accident, the driver fled from the spot along with the vehicle. As the vehicle was at a high speed, none dared to stop the vehicle. Local residents rushed the victim to SSKM Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
After being informed, police reached the spot and started a probe. They are going through the CCTV footages to identify the truck. Local residents alleged that there is no traffic management in the area during late night as a result of which the number of accidents is going up.
In a separate accident, two persons were injured when the car they were travelling in jumped over the divider after losing control. The incident took place at New Town in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Police said that there were two passengers in the car, including the driver. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accident might have taken place due to poor visibility due to the fog. Due to the high speed, the driver lost control over the vehicle and it crashed into the divider, injuring both the persons. The injured passengers were rushed to a private hospital where they were undergoing treatment.
It has been learnt that both the victims sustained serious injuries in the accident. Police have seized the car and are investigating to ascertain how the accident took place.
