One killed, 15 injured as bus overturns on return journey from Sagar Island

Kolkata: A bus carrying pilgrims to Kachuberia from Sagar Island on Sunday morning, overturned near Kalibazar More, killing one and injuring 15.
Among the injured, some are stated to be in critical condition. Local residents said that the bus driver lost control over the vehicle as it was running at a high speed. They took part in the rescue operation before police arrived.
They brought the injured passengers out of the bus one by one. The victims were immediately rushed to a nearby health centre.
According to the local administration, one devotee later died in the health centre while the injured have been undergoing treatment. Some of the injured passengers were shifted to a city hospital as their condition was stated to be critical.
Meanwhile, two youths have been killed in an accident that took place in Malda, late on Saturday night. Police said that both the victims were bikers. The victims have been identified as Niladri Roy (18) and Subrata Das (19). Bodies were sent for the post-mortem examination.
Police said that Das and Roy were riding a motorcycle along with another person, while returning home from a programme, when they hit a divider along National Highway 34. None of the youths were wearing helmets.
According to the preliminary investigation, police came to know that the victims were in a drunken state. Two other bikers were also injured in the accident.
All three injured youths were taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital by the local residents, where Das had succumbed to his injuries, while Roy died in the hospital later. The other biker has been fighting for his life in the hospital. Police have started a probe in this regard.
