One held over fake land deal

Kolkata: A person was arrested from Telengana by a team from Bidhannagar City Police in connection with cheating a person in New Town of a few lakhs under the false promise of selling a land.
Police sources said the arrested person Pintu Mondal had made an agreement with the complainant Ranjit Biswas, a resident of Baburbagan area in Hatiara, to sell a plot of land of 2 cottah and 10 chittak at Hatiara in New Town in lieu of Rs 15 lakh.
Mondal originally hails from Kaikhali near Chiria More.
Biswas had lodged the complaint on May 1 stating that Mondal had taken Rs 3.7 lakh from him in two installments and when he asked him for the
registration of the land, he allegedly threatened him of dire consequences.
Sleuths of the New Town police station immediately took up the investigation and traced the mobile tower location of the offender at Ramoji City in Telengana.
The police contacted their counterpart at Abdullapurmet police station under Racha Konda
police commissionerate and a team from New Town police station rushed there and nabbed Mondal.
"He had forged documents regarding the ownership of the land and showed the same to Biswas," an investigating officer said.
The accused was brought to Kolkata in the wee hours of Monday by availing Air India flight to avoid any unnecessary delay. He was produced at Barasat Court on Monday and was remanded to 8-day police custody.
"We are investigating whether he was involved in similar cases of cheating," the officer said.
