One held in connection with Chakdah murder

Kolkata: A person has been arrested on Sunday morning in connection with the BJP worker shot dead at Chakdah in Nadia on Friday. The accused has been identified as Bharat Biswas.

On Friday night, the victim identified as Santu Ghosh (22) was spending time with his friends at Goupara in Chakdah, when all of a sudden a few miscreants shot Ghosh and fled. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

According to sources, Ghosh used to be a Trinamool supporter and had joined BJP recently. Before the Lok Sabha Elections 2019, he was seen working for the saffron party. On Friday before Ghosh was shot, Biswas went to meet him. The incident took place after Biswas left. According to police sources, after arresting Biswas sleuths have found a jeans trousers from him, where signs of blood could be traced. Also at the incident spot, a sandal was found on the day of murder which is suspected to belong to Biswas. Sources informed that Biswas has admitted to the crime. Sleuths are trying to know if others are connected with Ghosh's murder.

On Saturday morning, some BJP workers put up a rail block protesting Ghosh's murder, which disrupted the railway services for a long time. BJP workers also sat on railway tracks at Badkulla and Birnagar in the Kalyani-Ranaghat-Krishnanagar section.

As a result, passengers had to face immense harassment. BJP workers also put up a road block on National Highway 34. It was withdrawn following the intervention of senior police officers of the district.
