One held for TMC leader's murder

Kolkata: A man was arrested in connection with Bandel Trinamool Leader Dilip Ram murder on Thursday from Patna. The accused is reportedly a supporter of BJP, who allegedly had a direct connection with the shootout.

According to sources, the arrested person identified as Sanjay Mishra is among the three FIR named accused. Since Ram was shot dead, all of them had fled their homes in

Bandel.

After a prolonged investigation, a few days ago sleuths came to know that Mishra was hiding somewhere in Patna. A police team went to Patna and on Thursday arrested him. Searches are still on to nab other FIR named accused persons in the case.

Ram, a local Trinamool leader and the husband of a Trinamool Gram Panchayat Pradhan in the district, was shot in the head, by unknown criminals allegedly backed by the BJP on June 29, while he was waiting to catch a local train at Hooghly's Bandel junction railway station around 10 am. Protesting against the killing of their leader, the Trinamool Congress called a 24-hour bandh in Chinsurah on June 30.

Meanwhile, after a few hours of the incident Inspector in Charge (IC) of Chinsurah police station was removed. A few days after his removal Commissioner of Police (CP), Chandannagar Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi was also transferred.
