One arrested for duping people under pretext of providing land

Kolkata: The Bidhannagar South Police station arrested a person on Wednesday night on charges of duping a woman under the pretext of providing her with a land at Baota mouza under Kolkata Leather Complex police station area.

The victim Urmila Das, a resident of FC Block in Salt Lake Sector III had lodged a complaint with the police on April 8, against one Francis Chatterjee alleging that the latter had taken a huge amount of money from her by giving false assurance that he would hand over a plot of land under Baota mouza in Kolkata Leather Complex within a short period of time by making sale deed of the property. However, when he ultimately didn't handover the said land even after a reasonable amount of time, she realised that she has been cheated and lodged the compliant.

During the course of investigation, police have found out that the person has cheated others in the same manner and amassed a huge amount of money by illegal means. "The amount of forgery will be to the tune of a few lakhs," an officer of Bidhannagar North Police station said. Police sources informed that Francis is a resident of Salt Lake GC Block. He was produced at Bidhannagar court on Thursday and is remanded to police custody.
