Omprakash Mishra joins TMC

Kolkata: Omprakash Mishra, former state Congress vice-president, joined the Trinamool Congress on Wednesday.

Mishra went to the chamber of Mamata Banerjee in the Assembly and joined the TMC. He has been made the All India chairman of the Trinamool Congress Education Forum. Mishra came to the Assembly with Suvendu Adhikari, the state Transport minister and went to the CM's chamber.

Mishra, a close aide of Adhir Chowdhury, was sidelined after the latter was removed from the post of PCC president. He was one of the PCC leaders who wanted to have an alliance with the CPI(M) in 2019 Lok Sabha election. However, the alliance did not happen and Mishra resigned after the Lok Sabha election results were out due to poor performance of the party.

Mishra also spoke about alliance with the Trinamool Congress to stop the spread of BJP in Bengal. However, the Congress opposed this view and said the party should distance itself from both the Trinamool and BJP and should form alliance with the CPI(M).

Meanwhile, Adhir Chowdhury, Congress MP visited the Assembly and said the Congress and CPI(M) should not only share floor in the Assembly but the alliance should continue outside the Assembly as well.

It may be mentioned that in 2016 Assembly elections, the alliance between Congress and CPI(M) did not click and the Left Front got only 32 seats, the lowest since 1972.
