Now, click photos inside Victoria Gallery

Kolkata: To facilitate those who visit Victoria Memorial Hall, the authorities have broken the century old tradition and allowed them to take photographs inside the gallery.
The Victoria Memorial was constructed between 1906 and 1921. Since the very beginning photography inside the gallery was prohibited.
Jayanta Sengupta, Curator and Secretary Victoria Memorial said from May 15 visitors have been allowed to take photos inside the gallery.
However, they are not allowed to use flash and tripod. Using flash light might affect the photographs many of which are more than a century old.
The visitors are taking photographs on their cell phones and uploading them on social media channels. This will increase the footfall of one of the finest architectures in India.
Many people who have not visited Kolkata but have heard about Victoria Memorial can now see the photographs of the gallery.
Hundreds and thousands of students of History from all over the globe visit the place.
The new system was introduced from May 15 and in the past 10 days, despite high temperature,
the footfall is impressive and most of the visitors in the gallery took photos.
To ensure smooth visit of the people, the authorities have introduced online booking and two ticket ATMs have been installed.
Particularly in winters, when there is heavy rush of domestic and foreign tourists, the visitors no longer have to wait for hours to buy tickets.
