Nobel laureate to become honorary life member of Mohun Bagan

Kolkata: Nobel Laureate Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee has accepted the invitation to become an honorary life member of Mohun Bagan Athletic Club. Earlier, the club authorities had gotten in touch with him over e-mail and put forward the proposal. On Sunday, a representative of the club handed over a written proposal to him, which he immediately accepted.

Though born in a family where most of the senior members were supporters of Mohun Bagan, Banerjee, who is an avid football fan, is a hardcore supporter of East Bengal Club. He told Mohun Bagan's representative who met him in Delhi, that he was heavily influenced by his cousin who was a hardcore fan of East Bengal Club.

During his school life and college days he used to follow the football action in Maidan regularly and even now, despite his busy schedule as a teacher in MIT, he follows international football along with his interest in music and cooking.

"Both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal are Bengal's great pride. To become a life member of Mohun Bagan is a great

honour to me," Banerjee told the representative of Mohun Bagan.
