No mobile use for teachers inside class, rules state education board

Kolkata: The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education has requested the teachers not to use mobile phones during the course of teaching.

A notification in this regard was issued on Tuesday, which prohibits random use of mobile phones/smartphones or bluetooth devices in class by the teachers.

The teachers have been asked to seek written permission from the headmaster of the institution in case mobile phones or smartphones are required as a teaching tool for a particular class.

The notification also prohibits students from bringing mobile phones and smartphones inside school premises.

The notification has been issued after it was found that many teachers use mobile phones while taking classes. Many are found using them inside laboratories as well. This affects the concentration of the students, who get distracted.

It has also been found that many teachers make long calls in class and the students, who have nothing else to do, make noises and talk among each other, affecting the discipline of the school. A senior official of the state Education department said that in the Western countries, the use of cell phones by the students and teachers inside the campus of educational institutions is strictly prohibited. The headmasters have been instructed to intensify vigil to ensure that the students do not bring mobile phones to the school either.
