Director of National Institute of Homeopathy thrashed by employee

A mason-cum-sweeper, having a criminal record registered in a police station, allegedly beat up the director of National Institute of Homeopathy, Professor S K Nanda in Salt Lake on Thursday.

The condition of the professor is stated to be critical and he has been admitted to Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital. The attacker Samir Amin was arrested by police.

Eyewitnesses said that Amin brutally beat up the victim with a bamboo stick. Nanda lost a heavy amount of blood from his head after he fell on the floor after the sudden attack.

The staff and doctors at the Institute rescued Nanda and took him to Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital. Doctors at the hospital advised shifting Nanda to Nil Ratan Sircar Medical College and Hospital.

A complaint was lodged by authorities of the National Institute of Homeopathy with Bidhannagar (South) police station. A team of investigators reached the institution to investigate into the case.

Investigators soon came to know that Amin, a mason-cum-sweeper at the institute, had previously worked
at the institute for some repair work.

It is believed that the accused probably had a personal dispute with the director and the sudden attack on Nanda was an act of revenge. Evidence suggests that the attack was planned and Nanda was caught unawares by Amin's brutal thrashing.

Police revealed that the accused had previously been arrested by police in a different case. It is believed that Amin was supposed to get some money from Nanda, but the latter was reluctant to give him the money because of his poor work ethics. The attack is believed to be in retaliation to this incident.

Police also came to know that the director was on his daily rounds at the Institute when he was attacked by Amin. He suddenly came in front of him, pushed him to the ground and then began to beat him up with the bamboo stick
