Soon, Transport dept to launch electric buses

The state Transport department would ply CNG buses all across the state besides introducing electric buses in Rajarhat, Bidhannagar and New Town.

Suvendu Adhikari, the state Transport department minister, in the Assembly on Wednesday, said that CNG buses will ply all across the state. One bus will cost around Rs 1 crore, but its maintenance cost will be much less compared to those of the diesel-run buses. Moreover, the fuel cost will be much cheaper as gas costs lesser than diesel.

At present, some CNG buses ply in Asansol and Durgapur. Moreover, 10 electric buses would be plying in Rajarhat, Bidhannagar and New Town.

He further said that steps have also been taken to ensure ambulance facilities in Sundarbans. This comes at the time when the Transport Corporations have been revived after incurring loss for the past many years.
