State govt planning to have own emblem

The state government is planning to have its own emblem, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in the Assembly on Friday.

"Many states have their own emblems and we are planning to have an emblem for our state," she said.

However, the Chief Minister did not say whether work is on to sketch the emblem and who is doing it.

It may be recalled that during the British rule, every native state had their state anthem.

Rabindranath Tagore was so influenced by the state anthem of Mysore during his stay there in the early 1920s, that he had composed his famous song "Anandaloke Mangolaloke" after the tune of Mysore's state anthem "Kayo Shree Gauri."

The state government has logos for its various projects. Mamata Banerjee had sketched the logo of Sabuj Sathi project where cycles are given to the students of Classes IX to XII of state run, aided and sponsored schools.

Sabuj Sathi is state's flagship project and so far, over 35 lakh bicycles have been distributed among the students.

She had also sketched the logo of Gaitdhara. The logo of Biswa Bangla has been appreciated by all sections of people.

Banerjee also did not say from when the new emblem would come out.
