One killed in road accident at Sector V

A person was killed in a road accident at Sector V in Salt Lake on Wednesday morning triggering tension among the local residents.

Police said that a New Town-bound matador from Nicco Park side hit a pedestrian while taking a turn. The driver lost control over the vehicle when he suddenly applied the brakes when he saw the victim walking along the street.

As a result, the vehicle mowed down the victim. The incident occurred on early Wednesday morning. The incident had triggered tension in the area following the accident.

The local people rushed to the spot and took the victim to Bidhannagar Sub-divisional Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

His body was later sent to the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The local people have alleged that the most of the vehicles run at a top speed in the area as there is no police vigil particularly in the early morning.

As a result of which the accidents often take place. They also alleged that the police administration has turned a blind eye to the problems pointed out by the local residents.

An eye witness told the police that the matador was running at a top speed on its way to New Town.

The driver lost control of the vehicle while taking a sharp turn near Nicco Park early Wednesday morning.

The victim whose identity is yet to be divulged by the police was crushed under the wheels of the speeding vehicle.

The accused driver and the helper of the matador had fled the spot immediately after the accident. They left the vehicle at the spot which was later seized by the police.

In a separate incident, a portion of a wall of a residential building collapsed at Duttabad area when a dumper hit it after losing control. No one was, however, injured in the accident.
