Three arrested for duping people

Three youth were arrested on Wednesday from Bidhannagar on charges of cheating several people after assuring them help to get a loan. Police said the accused Binay Jaiswal, Dhiraj Gupta and Sadab Anwar were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by one Samir Halder.

Halder, a resident of Salt Lake's Duttabad, had lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime police station of Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate on January 13.

A police officer said that the youth used to contact people and tell them that they can get easy loans if they proceed as per their advice. They used to take documents including driving licence, Aadhaar Card, Voter identity card and two cancelled cheques from them.

After getting the documents they used to withdraw money from the bank accounts of the people who had shown interest in taking loan. Similar incidents took place with the complainant.

On January 13, that is a few days after giving documents to the youth, Halder found that Rs 50,000 got automatically deducted from his bank account.

The bank officials told him that the money was deducted from his account using a cheque issued by him and it led to his suspicion. Thus he lodged a complaint with the police. Officers of the cyber crime police station found in their investigation that a pen that is used to erase anything written on a cheque was used by the accused.

Police suspect that they had cheated several other persons and would interrogate them to know that they had cheated how many more people.
