TMC MLA puts up rail block asking clearance of drainage system

Trinamool Congress workers led by MLA Jatu Lahiri put up a rail block near Santragachi railway station demanding the clearance of the clogging of drainage system in the area which was caused due to an ongoing railway project in the year for years.

They put a block on the railway track between the Santragachi and Ramrajatala stations. The laying of railway tracks in the Howrah section of Kharagpur division is underway for quite sometimes. As a result of this project, the underground sewerage line of neighbourhood got clogged. To protest against the incident, Trinamool Congress leaders under the leadership of Lahiri put up a block on the track at around 11 am.

Many trains including some long distance trains were stranded causing inconvenience to the passengers travelling in the train. The block was later lifted by the Trinamool Congress leaders after the railway officials assured them that the matter would be taken care of with utmost importance. The Railway officials assured Lahiri that the steps would be taken to speed up the works so that the project could be completed soon.

The local residents who joined the agitation also alleged that they were facing serious problems and the sewerage systems in many wards were getting clogged due to the ongoing construction work. They also threatened to organise bigger movement if their demands were not met.
