Burdwan bags award for best election mgmt

Burdwan has won the state award for improvement in gender ratio and election management. The district administration received the award from the President Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The district has bagged a shield and cash award of Rs 50,000. The district has also got the national award for best election management among 716 districts in the country. Burdwan has been elected as the best district in the country in managing 2016 Assembly election by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The District Magistrate Soumitra Mohan received the award on National Voters Day.

Mohan submitted a presentation on election management before the ECI at Ashoka Hotel in New Delhi earlier. The district magistrates of all the 535 districts in the country participated in a programme before the ECI. Fifteen districts in the country were nominated for award in different categories. In election management category Burdwan is the only district in the country that had got nomination. -The district has enrolled 1.28 lakh new voters of which the number of women voters is 6000 more than the male voters.

Before the 2016 Assembly election, Burdwan had started two systems. The first one was polling area survey apps. Using this GPS-enabled application, police and administrative managed to get every detail of a booth in a single click. The second one was that the voters could know about the queue in front polling stations by sending message to a stipulated number.
